TEST&FIX Offers 100 Percent Year 2000 Compliance for PCs
SecureNet
Technologies today announced Y2K TEST&FIX Version 1.06, the most thorough
test and fix available for the Year 2000 bug in PC hardware. With over
150,000 copies downloaded over the web in the past 4 months, Y2K TEST&FIX
is the most popular Year 2000 security product today. The State of Washington
recently licensed the product to deploy throughout the State.
Experts
estimate that 70 - 90 percent of the worlds PCs will fail to correctly
advance their internal clocks to the year 2000, causing innumerable problems
for the many functions that depend on those clocks -- e-mail, voice mail,
banking transactions, data tracking, and more. Other software utilities
test and fix only the PCs BIOS (Basic Input Output System) clock -- not
the Real Time Clock that is hardwired into the motherboard.
The
problem with such a BIOS fix is that it only takes effect upon reboot of
the computer. If IT managers are relying on this type of application, they
must be sure that every PC is shut down at the close of business on December
31, 1999; otherwise they run the risk that time-critical transactions will
be dated incorrectly and lost.
Y2K
TEST&FIX addresses the Year 2000 PC bug through the more complex procedure
of fixing the Real Time Clock (RTC). The program functions by installing
a utility that constantly monitors the RTC until the moment of rollover
to 2000, when it corrects the RTCs setting. This method ensures that PCs
will not fail upon entering January 2000, whether users have remembered
to shut them off or not.
We
are finding that many corporations and government agencies want the assurance
that all of their PCs are 100 percent Y2K compliant, says John Fuller,
Chief Executive of SecureNet Technologies. Why take a risk for such a
small cost?
Y2K
TEST&FIX is the only millennium fix for PCs that has been tested by
the NSTL. The program was also thoroughly examined by the Software Testing
Lab (STL), which commented that it performed to the intended purpose with
grace and efficiency. In an editors choice of the product, Secure Computing
Magazine remarks that Y2K TEST&FIX addresses only the firmware/hardware
problem, but does so in a thorough, simple, intelligent, elegant and inexpensive
way. It has plenty of safeguards which make it virtually as effective and
comprehensive as the hardware solution of installing a new compliant board.
